In a land that lays untouched by the world lives another world entirely; Everfrost. The wolves rule here, but there are other predators and there is plenty of prey for all. The landscape is beautiful; welcoming. But the land holds its own secrets, and so do some of the wolves...
In a land as old as time itself there are legends circulating everywhere. Legends as simple as the healing plants in Two Medicine Valley, or more complicated ones such as the healing water in St. Mary Lake. But there are legneds that are far more complicated and much larger than even those.
Some speak of magic, but that is a mere side-legend from the real thing. There is said to be an underground cavern somewhere in the ring of mountains surrounding Everfrost that holds great secrets - secrets that no one knows anything about. A few have said that there are items with special properties hidden in those caverns, items that are useful to wolves, and wolves only. Others have said that the bones of the Old Ones are hidden there. However, some have gone as far as to say that the old ones never died; that they are still alive, within the caverns, to this very day.
The Old Ones were the eight founders of the packs that now reside in Everfrost; the four alpha males and their alpha females that ruled alongside them. There was Agalthus, the founder of the Crandell Pack, and his mate, Mariette; there was Leothin, the founder of Kintla Pack, and his co-ruler, Kintla, whom the lake and territory were named after; there was Dreothulf, founder of the Glacier Pack, and his co-ruler, Jaminta; and lastly there was Kithlar, the founder of Nyack pack and his mate, Silvia. To believe that these eight were living in the caverns in the mountains was something that required much faith.
There is one last rumor. Some rumor that the she-wolf called Faith is living in the caverns, along with a few of the saints, such as Saint Mary and Saint Remus from the old story-legends. Faith came to the wolves in a time of need and rescued those that needed her help. There was war between the packs and it seemed that Faith was the only wolf keeping them from destroying one another. In the end she was killed, and that was what brought peace to the packs. She had been nearly worshiped after that, but that soon ceased when her brother, Kivlar, said that she would not have liked that. So they did as he told them.
Those are the rumors, but no one knows what the truth is. There must be something there if there are so many legends and rumors about the caverns underneath the mountains. But their whereabouts are still unknown. Wolves search, but cannot find. The question is no longer what they will find, but if they will find it. For now the wolves look as they try to survive in Everfrost.
If the caverns are ever found there will certainly be war among the packs for control of it. But, if whoever finds it first keeps the secret then war may be avoided...maybe...
